Measurement of Temperatures and Air Flow in a Gas Turbine

Ordinarily, a thesis, covering a research project that has been in operation as long as the Gas-Turbine project, reports experimental data, trends, and conclusions.  However, because of the lack of certain equipment, limitations on equipment and inexperienced personnel, there are two results to be reported.  In effect, then, this thesis is a progress report.  The thesis covers some of the difficulties involved in the project, some of the theory behind the project, and makes certain suggestions which the authors hopes will be helpful in fulfilling the object of turbine project.  This thesis is not meant by the authors to be all inclusive in coverage of the various phases in the turbine project.

A research project is apt to become "bogged down" with all the niceties and refinements of theory before the object of the project has been attained.  This the author is afraid will happen with inexperienced personnel.  The object should first be reached and then refinements can be made.

To alleviate the condition of inexperienced personnel, the author suggests that each person, before entering a research project, be required to write a short paper on the theory of the project, or on the equipment of the project, etc.  It is further suggested that the most experienced man of the project be put in charge so that co-ordination of all working personnel effort can be done.
