ERC Award Recipients at the 2010 SAE World Congress

The 2010 SAE World Congress will see plenty of activity from the Engine Research Center, including two individual’s receiving awards for technical presentation.

Chad Koci, who completed his MS degree in 2009 and currently works at the Southwest Research Institute, is this year’s winner of the 2009 SAE Myers Award for Outstanding Student Paper. The paper that he is cited for was SAE paper number 2009-01-0928, "Detailed Unburned Hydrocarbon Investigations in a Highly-Dilute Diesel Low Temperature Combustion Regime."

This award is given annually for the best technical paper presented by a student. The paper must be based on work done by the lead author(s) while a student. The award recognizes ERC founder Phil Myers and his wife Jean for their lifelong devotion to students and SAE.

Chad's co-authors on the papers include Youngchul Ra, Roger Krieger, Mike Andrie, and David E. Foster of the University of Wisconsin – Madison; Russell P. Durrett and Robert M. Siewert of General Motors Corporation; and Isaac Ekoto and Paul C. Miles of Sandia National Laboratories.

Professor David Foster will receive the SAE Lloyd L. Withrow Distinguished Speaker Award, affectionately referred to as the 'golden throat' award. The award, established in 1984, recognizes individuals who are three-time or more recipients of the SAE Oral Presentation Award. It honors the late Lloyd L. Withrow, former head of General Motors Research Laboratories Fuels and Lubricants, and a noted speaker at many SAE meeting.
